Mending Jeans

:rotfl: I had 3 kids and got bigger with each one not smaller ! I'm not sure I could cope with intense exercise but am currently aiming to do 3 hour-long walks a week plus the 40 mins a day I do to and from school. I'm hoping it will have some effect on my weight along with the 'not eating when I'm full/not hungry strategy'
It's going to be slow but permanent I hope. And maybe I won't need to patch the jeans I'm currently wearing:)

Yep - me too :j
In fact I weigh more now than I did when I was 9 month pregnant with my first child.
Edit: Mind you that was 25 years ago and I can now put it down to middle-aged spread.:D

Snap except this time I weigh more now than I did with my last child (20 years ago:eek: ) and I put on weight between each of my 3 children. I lost it immediately after the birth but it crept up on my while I wasn't looking but was busy looking after the children:o In fact I put all my present weight problems down to the dietician who came to see me after the birth of my wonderful daughter. "15 stone just before you gave birth - no hope then is there."and just walked away. I do hope karma has found a way of getting round to her. I find that increased exercise helps but the problem is that when you stop the weight goes back on again. My regular walking route is closed to everyone including pedestrians at the moment and untill I can be motivated to find another one the weight is going back on:o

Sorry thriftlady but when I was walking lots not at the moment - see previous post - I wore my trousers out even quicker - along with trainers cos of all the extra 'friction' :rotfl: but it was worth it.:jTrue wealth lies in contentment - not cash. Dollydaydream 20060 -
My OH's jeans are wearing through on the knee, there are two areas quite close together where they are worn completely and look like they are laddered. Apart from that they are in really good condition (and they are OH's favourite jeans) so I'd like to rescue them. Is it better to sew the holes up or to try and patch them?
Thanks in advance!!0 -
Could you take off one of the back pockets and use the material to patch from underneath?#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

my DH's jeans often wear holes in a different (ahem) area . I asked my mum, who used to be a seamstress (lucky me) to sew patches on the inside and he wears them like that for ages and ages.
Do the same with little holes in eldest son's school trousers where he's always falling over. Patches work so much better than sewing but then my sewing skills are basic. I have a couple of" past it" jeans in different shades I keep to make patches but any hardwearing fabric in a similar colour should do the trick.0 -
I'd also go with patching from the inside. If you try to sew them together you will get a pucker in the fabric and they are also much more likely to just pull apart again.0

I repaired a hole in a pair of jeans today. It was at the knee, more worn through really.I cut a square from an old blue cotton tea towel(in case it showed through)and patched it on from the inside using the 'Fast Hem' cellulose ribbon to fix it in place.
I don't know how long it'll stay in place,but I didn't want it getting any worse.I'm no seamstress,so I'm pleased with the end result!0 -
My Husbands jeans had the same problem. We got an old pair of cheapy jeans and cut it up for patches!
