Mending Jeans

I can get by with a needle and thread, but I have a bigger challenge with my jeans. I'm fed up with having to buy new jeans, and being a larger lady my jeans tend to wear away and I'm really unhappy that I have to stop wearing or throw away a perfectly good pair of jeans.
Can anybody give some tips or help on mending them? I am talking about the inside of the legs where they rub away!!!
(Lord forgive me for not paying attention to my grandmother when she had 2 sewing machines and tried to teach me how to sew
)
I think I may have to go to a class or something, sewing seems to be something of a lost art!

Mine do that too:o
I've managed to repair them fairly well in the past by sewing pieces of denim (not necessarily matching) inside the legs where the rubbing happens. It doesn't really cover the holes but it adds a bit more life to a pair of jeans

I woul;d have said he same, that is what I used to do but I have found the only prevention for the 'thigh wear and tear' was to loose weight!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

I agree with you both Sarahsaver and thriftlady, I am actually in the process of trying to lose weight - but as I have a veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy long way to go, i'd like to still have some nice jeans to wear - even if I have to use a belt!!0

I have the same problem being blessed with Rubenesque proportions.:D I have 'patched' from inside but often 'darn' the offending area before it actually wears through. I use a darning stitch, a zig zag or failing that a straight stitch, will do if you don't have one, and just sew backwards and fowards over the offending area reinforcing it with thread.True wealth lies in contentment - not cash. Bigger jeans so there's not so much pull on them?;)
I used to use any fabric to patch mine, the brighter the better. Then I went through a phase of making cutoffs and wearing denim shorts in the winter, with tights. That was 10 years ago. I would have been trendy now :eek:Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

So, Sarahsaver, tell us how you lost the weight then
I know you like good food and cooking and that you do lots of exercise. Is the exercise the secret, or more restrained eating or a combination ?

Three children!
after dd I was a size 16, after ds1 a size 14 and after ds2 a size 12. Ex oh did try to fatten me up (yes he was a feeder, they do exist) and i got up to an 18/20 at one point (can't really believe it but I did!)
Then food poisoning got me down 2 dress sizes in 24 hours, followed shortly by a month in hospital where I lost aprox 1 stone.
Currently I am around 10 stone, size 8 to 10.
I think the aspirin I have to take cos of the stroke helps, I have heard but don't take my word for it.
The yoga I do is bikram yoga, in a heated room for 90 minutes, about 110 farhenheit. You burn about 500 cals and sweat buckets! Then I do a spinning class once a week which is 500 cals and very intense, and one other session in the gym. So i don't go mad just do the things which are most beneficial and time/result worthy!
I think its the exercise, and the 3 kids! I am not always restrained with the food and being so just makes me miserable.
Now the bottoms of the hems on my jeans wear out instead of the inner thighs!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
