I want to change supplier, but I may have a problem

I've been with British Gas for my gas supply and Scottish Power for Electricity for over ten years now. I feel Im paying a lot more than I need. I would like to change supplier and go dual fuel so as to hopefully save more.
I have checked out the comparison site and I am confused. All the tarrifs and standing charges are confusing me.
Also, I have noticed a lot of the companies do credit checks, and I am on a DMP, and my credit rating has been annialated.
Anybody know of a supplier who does both a good deal for dual fuel and doesnt do credit checks.
I have looked at EDF Energy and that seem ok, give you £100 back (in credit off your account) and no mention of credit checks. Does anyone have any experience of this, any help would be appreciated.

No idea which companies would not do a credit check - if any.
But, since you are already with British Gas and Scottish Power you could simply go for a dual fuel tariff with whichever was the best of those two companies, and since you already have an account they may not need the same level of credit check, assuming you have been paying your energy bills that is.
At least you would then benefit from the dual fuel discount. Worth a try !This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I think most, if not all the p[ower co's credit check, this is not the same as when applying for a loan/credit card etc, if rating is low, may be asked to pay by dd as only payment option and worse case scenario you could be asked for a security deposit, which would be refunded after 12 months (generally but can vary co to co tho). As poster above suggests see which of BG and Scot pow tariffs are best for your consumption, because with those co's you'll only be subject to an internal credit chedck, which is solely against your payment history with that company, no external factors taken into account.0

even if you have to stay with your current suppliers you can probably save money by changing to their cheapest tariff.0

I don't think they credit check unless you are wanting to get rid of prepayment meters and then they ask your permission to do a check.0

You could try a look at Ebico & see how their offer compares with your current arrangements. They are a not for profit company & say that they seek to supply those on a low income at a fair price.
You may need to consider whether you owe your current supplier any money & whether you can pay it off however. If you do & can't they may object to any transfer request I'm afraid.
Good luck0
