If he is going to commute on a daily basis, there is another allowance called Home to Duty, which he may be entitled to receive. Again though, it is dependent on him being on the rent book and paying council tax.
If you go to http://www.rafcom.co.uk/pay_allowances/index_pay_allowances.cfm
you can read/download the publications. They apply equally to the Army as they do to the RAF.0 -
Good luck with the pregnancy and the impending army life! I am what is classed as an 'unaccompanied' wife, I live off camp too (personal choice, hubby only got few years left so I building a home for his retirement etc..)
You say in the first post he is on tour,(I'm assuming afgan for 6 months) because if he's still away on the due date, I doubt he will be sent back, he will probably have to arrange his RnR around the due date.Making small changes, hoping they will last....0 -

I wasnt asking for opinions on what people thought of unmarried families in the army, just wondered if anyone knew of what happens in my situation im sure other people have had the same kind of problem and would be grateful for advice as i really dont know how these things work. Do you know how i could find out about the GYH allowance. Thanks again.
theres not too much you can do in your situation im afraid, other than the plan you have which is for you to follow him. Obviously if hes posted abroad this could become difficult....but its not impossible to liveapart with him serving people do do it! However, if getting married is something you plan then doing it sooner rather than later would make you lives much easier i guess. My best advice as it stands though would be to try and make some friendships or connections with other wives and families where your husband is, it will help you keep up with things and feel involved. Whereabouts is he based just now?0 -
Thanks for all replys..no hes in the Falklands and should be back soon, hence why im trying to get as much info as possible before i have the baby and start my new life :-) hes based Luffenham, leicstershire. And dont think he is going to be posted anywhere else anytime soon.0

Best of luck - it's definitely an interesting life being the other half of a Service relationship, even more so with children. Much easier if you can be living with the OH whether that's in Army accommodation or your rown privately arranged home.
The Armed Forces do their best to look after 'their' families, but as others have said, this is mainly for married families. He will be entitled to paternity leave but do look at the different treatment of those who are married, and see if these change your mind on when to make this commitment (if you're already thinking of doing this at some stage). Not meaning to lecture, just trying to help you realise the Army world's rules.Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0
