Hi copperjar
I've just had a read of your thread and I just wanted to say well done on tackling your debts and good luck with it all. I know you have some real challenges ahead but you have to stay strong and judging by what you have written, I think you will do just that. I am sorry about your job situation too, it must be so tough for you. However, it sounds like you have a really supportive family and that is the most important thing. You will get through this and your DFD will come one day in the future.
I know you said you didn't want to tell your parents but I am sure they would love you whatever your financial situation is. Don't feel you have to bottle things up. It might be good to talk to them about it, just to have someone to share your worries with.
Keep up the good work. Be positive and remember you are not alone, there are millions of us out there who have been through this. I was over £35K in debt and I have been paying it off for 6 years and now owe less than £3K so you can come out the other side. You will get there too!!0 -
Hi muffin  Thanks for your comments. Its actually your achievement of reducing from £35k to £3k that is inspiring me at the moment. It can be done - even if things look a long way off right now. I do have supportive parents but still don't really want to tell them everything right now - maybe when I get my CCs paid off I'll tell them about my loans. I have spoken to my brother about my situation though and he has been very supportive...although it looks like he's starting to get in debt again himself, despite the help from mum and dad. The frustrating thing is, we both earn a good wage, yet our debt seems to have gone proportionately UP in line with our rise in salaries. Crazy.
Had a bit of a naughty evening yesterday and had junk for my tea followed by a large quantity of sweets!! Ooops. Spent £6 on things I didn't really need and felt a bit rubbish afterwards. But I'm still not smoking, so a bit of a blow out on chews and chocolate once a month is better than ciggies I reckon!
Also did some clicks for topcashback but it hasn't tracked so that was a waste of an hour of my life! Now I'm a bit paranoid that the real earners won't track either - going to change energy suppliers and life and home insurance soon which could give me a tidy sum - but what if it doesn't track?! :undecided
Need to upload some eBay stuff today - finding it hard to motivate myself to do it. Does anyone know anything about turbolister? Do you have to pay?
Noticed last night that FieldAgent had some jobs for Sat evening only, paying at £7! I only noticed at about 9.30pm and couldn't face leaving the house after settling down for the night, but I'll have to remember to check every Sat evening and see if its a regular thing. I'm still stuck on £8, wanted to try and get to £15 by the end of the month.
Right, have read through the list of jobs I put up on Friday and have either failed (NSD!) or not got very far, so will go and motivate myself now![STRIKE]Total debt 1.11.10 £23,446[/STRIKE]Save £6k in 2015 #129 £6121.66/£6000Save £6k in 2016 #39 £6000/£60000 -
Hi Copperjar, sorry to hear about your job, I know how hard it is at the moment. You've done really well to get a plan in place though!
BTW, egg and chips would be a 'free' meal on slimming world - you just need to not deep fry them all. It can be a diet meal after all :rotfl:
Turbolister is great. Much easier than listing directly on ebay (well it used to be, I haven't listed anything directly on to ebay for years). It's free and you can set up templates, also you can list things whenever you want and just store them in Turbolister until you want to list them.
The only thing is, Turbolister is normally excluded from free listing days, but that's not a big deal to me.
Give it a go! I think it's much quicker."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -
Thanks jwil, I'll definitely give turbolister a look. I don't sell massive quantities though so maybe it won't be that much quicker for me?
Another bad day food wise. Just bought a giant bag of choc buttons and some chewy sweets. Don't know why I've got a sudden craving for junk food. Think I often get like this at the end of the month after doing so well - feel the need to treat myself and want to eat rubbish!
Haven't managed to get many of my tasks done either, in fact, all in all, its been a lazy, boring, do nothing kind of weekend. Think I've lost my DFW mojo[STRIKE]Total debt 1.11.10 £23,446[/STRIKE]Save £6k in 2015 #129 £6121.66/£6000Save £6k in 2016 #39 £6000/£60000 -
I've had a pretty bad couple of days. So stressed out with this work thing, I have a constant feeling of anxiety and my mind is racing all the time - even during the night - so I'm not sleeping. Panicking about my job, which leads to a panic about my money, which makes me want to smoke, but because I'm not smoking, I'm eating junk and comfort food instead - which is costing me money! Arghh! Wish Thursday would just hurry up then I'll actually be able to start making decisions - at the moment, its just guess work and instability.
I've discovered that by the last week in the month I start thinking "sod it" about my money. £17 on tea out yesterday
The only positive is that I've had a couple of ebay sales (£11.70) but one hasn't paid yet...two days later, and one Amazon sale (£8.99) my first in a while. I'm not sure I'll get to the end of the month without going into my OD - need to fill the car up for a trip to the parents this weekend and need to find a bit of money for Christmas shopping with Mum on Saturday. I still haven't bought one single present yet![STRIKE]Total debt 1.11.10 £23,446[/STRIKE]Save £6k in 2015 #129 £6121.66/£6000Save £6k in 2016 #39 £6000/£60000 -
Well the diet has most certainly gone to pot this week! Have also noticed just how much I fritter money away when I'm not being focussed about money saving. Didn't take a packed lunch today so there was £4 spent that didn't need to be. Also had to pay £4.20 to post my Amazon sale  And I'm running out of petrol. Have about £40 to last me until next Tuesday which sounds easy, but I'm Christmas shopping at the weekend with my Mum and have a fair bit of mileage to do to even get there! Then there's a prescription to pay for on Friday and no doubt a coffee or two tomorrow after the meeting at work to digest what's happened with my collegaues.
To be honest, I'm just trying to get to tomorrow to hear about my job. Not thinking about much else at the moment. My friend and I are talking about whether we could set up our own social care business. I'm excited about the prospect one minute and scared stiff the next. In a way, it would be easier if we were just told that we're being made redundant. In that case we'd probably go for it. If there's a small chance that we can be redeployed into another job, we'll actually have to make a decision! And being a scaredy cat I'll probably go for the safe option.
Looking forward to updating my totals at the end of the month, although because I've focussed on the overdraft, the CCs haven't gone down much. I'm still wondering whether to pay off the Virgin card asap because it will give me a boost to see one go - but the sensible thing would be to pay off both cards together. Can I be any more indecisive?!
Haven't managed to make much additional money this week. Like with the diet and frivilous spending, I think I lose my enthusiasm in the last week of the month! Have done a few topcashback clicks that have now tracked but keep missing out on FieldAgent jobs and haven't listed any more items on ebay. Still waiting for payment on my last ebay sale. Why on earth don't people pay straight away? Its for a grand total of £2.90 and finsihed on Monday! I just want to get it sent off. Grrrr. Colleague at work wants to do a carboot with me (bless him, think he just wants to help me make some money because he knows how stressed out I've been) - but I bloody sold all my potential carboot stuff on that ebay joblot sale
I've considered buying some stuff off ebay to take to a carboot, but none of the joblots on there look as good as mine so it would be ridiculous really! Think I'm losing the plot.[STRIKE]Total debt 1.11.10 £23,446[/STRIKE]Save £6k in 2015 #129 £6121.66/£6000Save £6k in 2016 #39 £6000/£60000 -
Hi copperjar, good luck for tomorrow., I hope everything turns out the way you hope for. What would a social care business involve?
We all have bad spending days and weeks. Mine always seem to come when I want to make money stretch for as long as possible but I see things that I think one fo us needs and I can't seem to wait for the next pay day or unitl I've payed a bill. Everyone has their weaknesses.
Tomorrow I will be thinking about you and wishing you the best.LBM 04/10:j

Thanks caz - I really appreciate that. Basically our business would be to run a support service for adults with a learning disability - from 1/2hr a day to 24hrs a day - whatever people want! Me and my would be business partner are both operations managers for the local authority and manage learning disability services, so it would be a case of setting one up on our own. Local authorities are looking at putting services out for tender so we think there would be a chance for us to get in - but its such a scary prospect! And we don't really have any idea on where to start, or even if there would be enough work in the area for us to do![STRIKE]Total debt 1.11.10 £23,446[/STRIKE]Save £6k in 2015 #129 £6121.66/£6000Save £6k in 2016 #39 £6000/£60000

Good luck for today Copperjar, fingers crossed all goes well.
It annoys me when people don't pay up on ebay either. I've got a NPB at the moment which I think I can close tonight. I always pay straight away - if I've bought something, I want it!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Well, bad news. My post is being disestablished - they're basically wiping out all of my level. Other management is being reduced by 50% so there's not even many other opportunities available. Feel a bit numb, boardering on hysterical (couldn't stop laughing earlier!).[STRIKE]Total debt 1.11.10 £23,446[/STRIKE]Save £6k in 2015 #129 £6121.66/£6000Save £6k in 2016 #39 £6000/£60000
