02 Renault Clio headlights and backlights stopped working

I went out again earlier and found that there are no back 'dipped' lights on this car, it just has back lights which come on when sidelights are on and the fogs. Checked this with another Clio (03).
This must surely be worthy of nomination for the highly prestigious 'MSE Dipstick Of The Month' award?

Clue, clear=Front
red =Rear
If it's still unclear, the steering wheel is near the front.
