The old hi-fi, according to my Dad, doesn't turn on all the time, I suspect it might be a loose wire somewhere, a lot of things at my Mom's house suffer from the wrath of the duster.

Sounds like the drive belt, especially if 25 years old

Drive belts are normally rubber, so loose the elasticity over time

  • Netto were doing a cheap USB turntable not too long ago. Team it up with an old PC, put the sound card audio into the HiFi aux so it uses its speakers.

If they don't have many vinyl albums, it might be easier to replace those they still listen to with CD versions (or downlaoded versions if you get them something that can play from a USB stick or a DAP).
