Old solid oak front door - what to do with it?

Sorry I read the title and the what to do with it...you could sell it to me!...so many people move into old houses and change the door to upvc and it makes me really sad.....well done for bringing an old door back to life....frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Yes, perhaps my thread title wasn't as clear as it could have been! I know exactly what you mean about people getting rid of old doors though - it seems such a shame and nothing will fit the character of the house better than the original door. I just hope all my eventual hard work will pay off!

We have substantial oak double doors at front of our house and we used Nitromors to remove the old surface.
Did the same with a heavy oak back door.
Can't remember what we used to stain them but both look fantastic.
I agree with other that it's a great pity that so many householders have thrown away doors like these and replaced with UPVC.
Our house was built in 1955.
I think the polished chrome door furniture may pit and go nasty eventually. Others here may have experience of this and correct me if I'm wrong.
We have brass door furniture and it's absolutely carp; I'm thinking of replacing it with that black forged iron stuff ... maybe you should sell it to me!!0 -
use danish oil deffinately! I use it on mine and it brings it up lovely!!!0
