P/X against 2 vehicles

Simple question really, but how likely is it that a car dealer will do a P/X on a £2-£2,500 car against 2 smaller cars at a lesser value?

My OH needs to sell his car, but it needs some TLC, and will cost him more than he thinks is worth the effort to get ready for a private sale- I also need a car of my own now, so we're considering P/X his car at a garage for 2 smaller, run abouts worth between £600-£1000 each.

Do people think this is a likely deal to make?

This was my thinking as well vaio. My OH's car could easily sell for nearer £3k if it had a little bit of attention, so I'm hoping we'll get an offer of around £2200 for it, buy two cheapo cars and walk away with a little spare cash to put in the mortgage savings.

    Sounds a little hopeful!

You can't compare the "selling" price of your car once it's fixed up to the price a dealer will offer you. The dealer would either have to spend money on it and want to then sell it for a profit, or just auction it (ie realise its lowest value).

Its very doubtful you'll get such a deal, if you dont think its worth doing the work to get it up to scratch neither will a dealer. If the car is worth £3k in good nick then yes maybe your one is worth £2.2k but as a PX you'd be lucky to be offered £1.5k

And as for having a bit of cash left over from the deal to put away you have even less chance!
