Are Visa Credit Cards on the way out?

We have both Visa and Mastercard credit cards with Nat West. My husband is the primary card holder and I'm the secondary. We have just been issued with 2 sets of new Mastercards, all 4 identical in appearance apart from the numbers.
We now understand that the second set from Mastercard is a replacement for our Visa cards and were told that Nat West is only going to use Visa for debit cards. Does anyone know if this is true of other card issuers?
Travelling abroad we have often found that a Visa credit card is more acceptable/recognisable and don't want to lose its convenience so I am thinking of applying for a Visa credit card with someone else.
Thanks in advance for any information.

They're all much of a muchness. Mastercard are doing well to get banks to switch to them at present, but Visa will come back around.0

Mastercard have been the preferred choice for credit card companies for the past couple of years and many have switched from VISA in this time.
However with debit cards VISA has become the preferred choice for banks.
It's probably down to who is providing the best deal, but neither card are on the way out !0
