Looking at purchasing virgin or sky but as in a new build we are not connected to the exchange. Do we have to pay the cost to get connected or do sky or virgin add it into their prices?

The first person to occupy a new build usually has to pay the connection charge (up to £130 in the case of a BT landline although other line providers absorb some of the cost).
Even if Virgin cable is in the street outside, you still may not be able to get cable connected to a new build. The only way to know is to ask them.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
If you are on the Virgin Media network (not Virgin National) none of the Virgin network is connected to the BT exchange as we have our own street cabinets that run back to a street exchange,or Mux.On a lot of new builds now the toby box is often just outside the front window or centrally between the two houses so they can share one Toby & ducting instead of one each.Older properties have the toby box on the pavement.
The Toby is a small black plastic cover about 4inch square AS IN THE PIC BELOW;
