I particularly like the fact he requires payment in 3 days but might not send for 15 days.

Wonderful. I notice that the economy delivery is listed as 18-20 days which is a very long time. Is this generated by Ebay or by the seller?

A combination of both. Ebay use a standard timing for 1st or second class. I think it is 1-2 days for 1st 2-3 for 2nd and they add that to the dispatch time that the seller states. So a selelr saying they despatch in 2 days using 2nd class would show a delivery time of 4-5 days.

I was researching an unrelated item when I stumbled across that listing (from a Google search). The thing is that the selller is their own worst enemy, that vase is worth a great deal more than he got from it so he has in fact lost money by his dreadful selling terms and incredibly slow posting times. A good seller could easily get double that.

That's precisely what I hate about some eBay sellers. All they care about is the money - and once they have it, the buyer can basically go to hell. It's not that easy to do things well, but other people manage it.

@Martin - that's set by eBay, who sometimes give a ridiculous estimate based on the longest estimate of postage by the seller. Even on a reasonable timescale it's still something in the region of 8-10 days.

POSTAGE COULD BE UP TO 15 DAYS BECAUSE I DON'T LIVE NEAR A POST OFFICE - so why even attempt to try making money out of a online order business? All these people who complain about this, or about being too busy to post except every other Tuesday --- perhaps it would be better to get another job? I live five minutes from a PO but I wouldn't do it if I could only post from Reading town. The people, like the girl with the thread about getting to a PO with a £160 item and asking for other options, who really try - they are the ones who really deserve to do well. The rest.../facepalm.

The seller must be new to their area or they don't get out much...

The small print mentions that posting can take 15 days due to not living near a post office.

They live infact 2 minutes drive away or 11 minutes walk

All they need to do is paste 'Post Office near 4 Platform Road, Southampton' into Google Maps.

Whats the betting the seller is the type of person who chases up where their letter/parcel is that they may be expecting

The long dispatched time is an interesting selling tactic that is useful to know - I do not suggest using it but it is useful to know.

Others have already noted the downside but the long dispatched time prevents hasty INR claims and will make someone who just want free stuff from ebay move onto another seller. Unfortunately as already noted it will also make other honest buyers also move to the next seller.

To be honest, it doesn't prevent hasty INRs at all - Paypal will still give you one quickly if eBay don't.

I have come across that seller too. I was interested in a piece of glass he had for sale. I couldn't decide whether his riduculous terms were a good thing in that others might be put off so I could scoop a bargain, or a bad thing in that if there were a problem he'd be difficult to deal with. I decided to move on in the end as you really need a good accurate seller when you are dealing in crystal/china, to avoid misdescription and disappointment.

Buyers can still open an INR dispute on day 7, the fact that item may not have been sent is immaterial as seller loses all paypal protection after 7 days anyway.

So a real scammer could take this seller to the cleaners if they so wished.

I seen so many dropshippers do this and some UK (apparantly i brought a microSD card which aims to be delivered in 15 days ) - dispatched on day 11 lol
