Caller ID/ Display not working

Hello all,

We had caller ID / Display & BT privacy or whatnot activated by BT a few months ago (the only condition being that we make 2 billable calls per quater which we certainly do).

Anyway I only recently got around to buying the caller display LCD box to make use of this service. However, whilst it certainly works as a "Message Waiting" display it does not display the caller number.

The unit concerned is a BT260690.

A couple of points that may be relevant.

1. We do have a BT Line / BT phone service with Caller ID / BT privacy - activated

2. Yes - I did remove the battery tab !

3. I bought it via eBay

The box calls it a "BT Call Reminder" not a caller ID unit. However it does display a scrolling message inviting me to call a number to set up a Free Trial of BT Caller ID service. As previously stated we already have this (and it is now essentially a "free" service from BT in any case).

I do wonder if this is an obsolete unit no longer compatible with BT equipment / protocols - that was inadequately secured to the lorry upon which it was transported to eBay land.

Any advice would be appreicated.

Thanks,

Trevor

The easiest thing would be to ask a friend if you can borrow their phone with caller id display or caller id box, which they know works. Then try it on your line.

To be absolutely sure, you should plug it directly into your BT master socket - rather than an extension lead / extsension socket.

(If you report the problem to BT, they will probably ask you to do that anyway.)
  • Hi edddy,

    Thanks for that.

I did in fact plug it directly into the master socket. Unfortunately I don't really know anyone from whom I could borrow a suitable phone / caller ID Device although that would certainly be a logical step.

My feeling is that this device is obsolete and that a clutch of them have found their way onto the eBay market.

Anyway - many thanks for your help.

I have a quick look on ebay and a unit matching the description of your unit, has the old (quite old) BT logo on it.

I may well be a factory refurished product, why not return it to the seller as 'faulty?'

  • Try 1471 first, then dial from your mobile or whatever and repeat the test. Then goto BT.com and check your account if it's on there too (the caller id that is)
