My father in law is coming back from Memphis (with KLM) via Schipol around the 16th December after vivsiting his son.
Does anyone know if he can pay to gain access to the KLM lounges there as he has an 8 hour layover.
Any info would be appreciated
thanks

the official KLM lounges are usually only permitted if you have a qualifying ticket (usually business / first class) or qualifying frequent flyer memberships.
there are a number of lounges you can pay to go in, through people like 'www.loungepass.co.uk', however you tend to find that these are usually time limited to about 3 hours prior to your flight.
have you not enquired about a better connection back through amsterdam?I used to be a Travel Agent Used to be a travel agent for 23 Years, but now out of the industry. However I will help with what i can.0 -
Schiphol airport is great, and there is a nice relax area as well. I have worked in Holland for 5 weeks in August (I was flying back every other week), and I have to say that Schiphol airport is great and very well organised. Comfortable too. The only pity - I wasn't too impressed with the food.Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0

As above - no chance with the KLM lounges unless in Business or a Skyteam Elite. You may get in if you buddy up with an Elite on the flight who will take you as a guest.....
Back to the real world: the best pay per use lounge is the Menzies. Google menzies lounge schiphol and find the cheapest.
Another, more expensive option, would be to take a cabin the the Yotel for 6 hours for a shower, rest and privacy. Google will take you to their site. The Yotel is airside behind the non-schengen food court.0 -
THANKS GUYS FOR YOUR REPLIES
I will go look up your ideas and let him know
many thanks0 -
It is worth asking on the KLM board on Flyertalk if anyone will guest you. The KLM lounge is well worth a visit if you can get in.Gone ... or have I?0

I will just add, the journey between Schiphol airport and Amsterdam is quick and easy, and there are any number of things to see and do in Amsterdam. Personally, even if I had the choice of a day in Amsterdam or in the VIP lounge, I would choose the city.0

As previously stated you can buy a lounge pass but you need to check out what you get for your money. Sometimes you get free drinks and snacks otheres something a bit more substantial. Also check out Quidco as you can get cashback from Lounge pass
If it is a lot of money you may be better off paying for a good meal, It may also be worth checking out what facilites there are at the airport as some have hotels where you can stay for a few hours and have a shower etc0 -
You are not missing a great deal in any of the KLM lounges at Schipol. Sure, you will get free drinks but the 'food' leaves a lot to be desired and the staff are downright miserable - although that is likely a Dutch trait.
When I have not had access to KLM lounges, I have paid to use Menzies which again, is no great shakes but offers the usual drinks and basic (very basic) snacks and is reasonably priced - or at least used to be.0 -

What i was going to say, you can get a train from inside the airport to Centraal quickly (unless the layover is in the middle of the night?)we have love enough to light the streets.0 -
