Building a wall

Hi
Can anyone tell me how tall I can build a wall without having to gain planning permission?
I already have a wall but wish to rebuild some of it and higher it sightly, but unsure how I go about doing this.
I don't want the hassle of planning permission so will stick to what I'm allowed, but unsure what that is?
Please advise
