Hi
I picked up a second hand canon powershot from an auction last month. I have got it working by downloading the drivers from canon website. I just can't work out how to get videos of the device?
Will I need to buy the canon software?
Is there some open source video software that will be able to download from this camera?
How difficult will it be to write of an VCD from the movies i take with this camera?
I have nero6 cd writing software on my machine.
My computer is runing windows 2000 SP4.

Hi,
The videos are .avi files stored on the memory card.
You can either connect the camera to the pc with the lead as normal or remove the card and use a reader.
You do not need any software, just use the windows option to "Copy pictures to a folder" etc that automatically pops up when you connect, or scroll down to "Open folder to view files" etc and just drag & drop the files you want.
Either way it treats photos or video in the same way.
D/Click on the video file and it will play through windows media.

I've got this camera and mine are fine. Can't think of any reason why they might do this.0 -
HI
thanx for the advice. I got it sort of working for my friend. I think I missed that bit out that it was a friends camera.
He wanted to get the videos he did by mistake ,when trying to take pictures.
It seems google picasa software that i installed on his machine for doing photos. Try in a sort of way to download the videos into the my picture folder and does not give any features to deal with videos. I can understand that is for digital photos , so does it bother trying to download avi videos either from the camera or when CF card is plugged into typhoon usb card reader.
Any what got any advice what video software that does very simple job similar to picasa? Would like to be open source or free , he is an OAP and not got any money to spend , that why he picking stuff up from auctions(with my advice on).
He will want to be able to take indivudal frames from the video and then save them a pictures in his my pictures folder?
Also would like to be able to burn the videos as vcd disk to play on dvd?
he was really pleased yesterday when i made up a video cd with his collection of videos that he had done

He is using windows 2000 and that feature your talkin about above is XP as far as I know. It does not happen on my windows 2000. He did not like that keep poping up when he did have windows XP on his old computer.
He can not cope with doing complex stuff like copying file in explorer , i have made videos and notes about how to use it but he still gets really confussed with the termonology being used. So I want it kept the solution to this problem really simple.

This file should allow you to play Motion Jpeg if you don't have the correct codec installed on the computer; http://codecs.nm.ru/mcjpg30.zip or you can use; http://www.morgan-multimedia.com/0

For an all-in-one solution, try; http://www.irfanview.com/
Don't forget to download the relevant plug-in.0
