Holiday for Family of 8

Hi all,

I have 4 children and we foster 2 more relatives. Ages are 16, 15, 11, 10, 3, 1. I have never been able to take them abroad for obvious reasons. It could possibly be only the middle 4 children coming.

I have 3K saved and should have more by next summer. I have no idea where to start and the little I have looked, the prices are just scarey.
I would like to go somewhere simple, maybe spain or Malta or somewhere else cheap and hot with plenty for the kids to do. I would also like to be able to get out of the tourist towns to see the real coulture.

Any help you can give me would be great to get me started.

Hi, We are a family of six and I've found the cheapest way of doing it is to look on ryanair/easyjet for cheap flights, and then look for accomodation - either two hotel rooms or a villa, or last year we went with thomson al fresco to a caravan.

    Where are you flying from?

Malta is cheap, safe and easier to get round. Try Chevron Holidays site.

or a villa may be a better choice with you arranging your own cheap flights?

    something like these?

There are lots of campsites in france, spain etc that are big enough for 8 people. They usually have good facilities and are cheaper than a villa.

We have been to a few and used cheap airlines to get there. Look at eurocamp/canvas etc for ideas. We have sometimes stayed in a city for a few nights beforehand to see a bit of culture and then went to a beach resort( we stayed in a hostel in venice for two nights then travelled to a beach resort for 12 nights afterwards)

If you went to one of the spanish sites they are usually accessible to Barcelona for a day trip.

    Good luck
  • If it's only the middle 4, try direct holidays. Recently seen all inclusive deal for £3200 in spain (3 star). Think it was majorca, all in same room/accomodation.

This is true, and I would also add that the people are among the friendliest I have ever known.

However, there is not a lot for children to do. The hotels are not of a brilliant standard, and there are very few beaches.

OP, I agree with above poster who recommends getting Easyjet flights, and then going for a villa. I would recommend Spain or Cyprus.

Standards in Malta, depends on which hotels - same as in any country :) A villa may be a good choice for someone with that many children. Im a bit surprised that you say there are very few beaches?
