Very Urgent help Needed Please

I was contacted recently by a Debt Collector chasing for money which was owed to a company where I got an electrical equipment on credit in 2004.I kept up with my repayment until 2005 when I lost my job and could not continue. The company wrote a few letters and went quiet until towards the end of last year then I had a letter from a DC and I wrote back to them asking for CCA and they failed to supply me with one then wrote back informing me that the did not have. I did not hear anything until July -Aug this year. I have been receiving letters from another DC company chasing the same debt. I asked them for a CCA and letter of assignment/deed but they posted only CCA but have not provided me with any proof that they own the alleged debt or assigned to collect/chase it. WHAT CAN I DO? CAN ANYONE HELP? They have given me five days. They did serve me with statutory demand too.
Heeeeelp Please.

Perhaps you could consider paying back the money you owe.

Sell the electrical goods you took without paying for and use the proceeds to repay the electrical goods people

Thanks Clive for your advice but my fear is that I am not sure in what capacity they are chasing this debt. What if the original owners start chasing me after I have paid this DC? I have not had any letter from the original company assigning the debt to another company. Does this not matter?

Your debt can be passed around at the lenders whim, they do not have to discuss this with you first.

Have you spoken to the original lender?

Good advice but considering that its 6 years since that time, surely it wont sell for anything.

Sounds like you have already decided you don't feel obligated to pay for those goods.

Lots of advice for debts on here, but this is clear debt avoidance, theft almost.

I have no constructive advice, there are those on here with your train of thought, I'm sure one will be along soon to help you out.

Only 5 years so still plenty of time for them yet.

Thanks for coming in. It is not my intention to avoid clearing this debt. All I wanted to find out is if letter of assignment is not important /requirent in settling a debt especially when it is not the original lender asking. I do not know where you get the idea that I do not want to pay.

well, the no mention of even a pound a month repayment plan is a bit of a give away for whether you want to pay or not; also the no contact for a long period of time.

However. Start by writing and asking for evidence that you owe the money, as at this point in time, you do not acknowlege that you owe anything.
