Oven not heating - Please help

Hi,
We moved into this house 8 months ago....the oven is built in with a countertop gas hob...the oven is electric I think....
The problem is that's stopped heating...when I turn it on there is a gentle 'draft' of cold air if I can call it that.
Is there anything I can do to fix it....I don't have the cash right now to replace it. Cooking in my convection microwave is very limited....it's not as good as the old fashioned oven....
Hope this one can be sorted.

Hi,sounds as though the element or the thermostat has packed up. it must have a supply as the fan sounds as if it is running on switch on. not really a job for a novice I`m afraid. sorry

We had exactly the same symptoms in our oven.
I bought a new element from ebay for the model of oven (I think it was about a tenner) and fitted it myself - it's easy.
Give yourself a couple of hours to work out how to get to the element (it will be where the fan is at the back). You'll probably need to slide the oven out of the fitted unit.0 -
We have a thread on here about once a week on this subject. Fan oven elements are about the most common fault on electric cookers at the moment.0

Lidl's have little oven's available this week for £19.99. See here...

May work out cheaper than calling out an electrician.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0 -

Hi,
I agree it is a very easy job but, Please do take care when removing the casing of the oven to replace the element. Insisde there are live terminals easliy accesiable. If you oven plugs into a socket make sure to unplug it first. If it is hard wired (you will have a big switch on the wall and a large 6mm cable feeding it) use a good set of mains testers and make sure it is isolated. Bear in mind you potentially have a piece of equipment with a 40 amp fuse. If you get your hand in there and it's not switched off your family could be wishing you persevered with the microwave.
It is also worth bearing in mind that a repair man should charge no more than £25 plus an new element (around £20-£25). They will also be able to verify it is the element at fault, as previously mentioned it may be the thermostat???? If you need any more detailed instructions pm me with some pics and i will try my best to help u.

Dear All:
I was hoping someone could help me with my oven problem. I had a similar problem to Motherof1 with the cool air in the oven each time I turned it on. However, now nothing happens - no fan, no heat - dead. I know the electrics to the oven are working because the digital clock on the front is still working.
Any ideas what the problem could be and how I could fix it?
I appreciate any help I can get to avoid having to call someone in!!
Thanks! JML0 -
It shows you how to replace the heating element in most built in ovens here-

Thanks to Weekend Warrior for his reply - just to confirm, are the fan and the heat both controlled by the heating element? If so, great! If not, what should I be looking for to fix the fan?
Thanks again for all your help!
