Paying for a collection only item

I've bought 2 sofas for collection, the description says cash on collection. Is it wise to do that or should I insist on paying through Paypal so there is a payment trail?

Many thanks for any advice.

You can pay with paypal but as you are collecting you might as well pay cash as you can inspect it when you collect.

Many sellers prefer cash on collection for pick-up only items as Paypal require on-line proof of delivery for seller protection.

You can insist on paying by Paypal if you wish as sellers are required to accept this.

If you do decide on pay on collection make sure you inspect the sofas fully and are happy with it before parting with your cash.

Check your seller's feedback and if your are happy with this and any communications they have had with you, there is no reason why this should not be an easy transaction.

If you are not happy with the sofas when you see them and don't want to conclude the transaction, you can ask the seller to send you a cancellation request so they can get back their fees.

    Hope this helps.

Although you need to look after yourself, the only reason a seller asks for cash on a collection item is they have no protection if you paid by paypal and then claimed an INR case.
From a sellers point of view if it was for a large amount of money i wouldn't be accepting paypal for a collection item (i know it's the rules that you have to) but there is no way i would be taking a risk like that for something worth a good few quid and you could then find your seller refusing to sell to you. Obviously you can report them to ebay and all the hassle it would cause them but it wont get you your sofa if they were really insisting on cash only.
If i was buying a collection item as i do quite often i always pay cash as i don't like to hack the seller off and i want my item!

    Thanks for everyone's replies.

Can I decide not to conclude the transaction? Not that I would do that, but I thought once I'd purchased the items that was it.

Yes you can. There's a chance, if you do, that the seller would issue a NPB, but they would be daft to do so if you have seen the items and they are rubbish.
You have no need of a paper trail if you are collecting, what use would it be?
