JSA for Singl Parents - Quick Question

Why would you be writing a letter of complaint?
Yes, she can limit her hours to school hours. However, it *may* be argued that restricting her availability on a Tuesday also could mean that she does not have a reasonable chance of securing work, so they may stop this restriction. Could I ask why she is not available on a Tuesday? Its none of your business, its hers. She should be writing the letter assuming she has a problem. You don't have the right to complain just because you've got your knickers in a twist about a woman with a child at school being quite rightly required to look for suitable work.
It's so good to see people rushing to judgment with no regard for the specifics of a situation. A "latchkey kids" culture is undoubtedly a major factor in the current woeful state of our society, but that is another topic.
The reason I want to write the letter is that my friend was reduced to tears by the manager of the Jobcentre when at one of her regular appointments she was told completely out of the blue that they were going to perform a review, whereby they then proceeded to try to bully her into making an agreement to be available when she wasn't. As a result they suspended her claim and I had to go back in with her and her 11-year old son the following day to get it sorted out, because she was simply in no state whatsoever to handle the situation. At that meeting she was told that she had to be available 9am-5pm Mon and Wed-Sat (she does have a legitimate reason not to be available on Tuesdays - which they accept - and as I said I'm not going into details) otherwise they would not consider her available for work. Hence my surprise when I heard somebody say that as the single mother of an 11-year old she need only be available during school hours.0
