Theft of rings

My OH lost a gold bracelet a couple of years ago valued at £450. We were told to go to a Jewellers in Harrogate (the crap one) and choose one to the value of £400. (£50 excess) I objected strongly and wanted to go to a local, independant jeweller and trustworty jeweller. They eventually gave in and we did just that and they paid the full £400. Another vote for Coop insurance then. Never had a problem with them.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Hi all
Thanks for the advice its greatly appreciated, both the rings are quite unique and impossible to replace from a high st jeweller, so have started an official complaint and contacted the FOS, I'll update as it happens, but now we have to wait maybe 8 weeks for their final say before FOS will do anything. Time to dig in.

FOS could take a along time. I suggest you send them a copy of the letter you plan to send to FOS and give them 14 days to respond and meet your demands. Insurers tend to listen when FOS is mentioned......0

Merry Christmas and a happy New year to all.0 -
The rings may be unique and difficult to replace but insurance doesn't cover for sentiment and can only be financial indemnity of the loss incurred. As long as they put you back in the same financial position then that seems fine, I can see how vouchers would limit your choices though which seems a bit unfair._________________________________________

You bring up a very good point jay.
I haven't read the ombudsman's articles and would be suprised if this hasn't been tested already, but how does having useless vouchers put you back in the same financial position?
If it were food or petrol vouchers then fair enough, but you may not be able to use these at all.0
