Crewe - food and entertainment

We are staying overnight at the Travelodge in Crewe next Thursday and going to Alton Towers on the Friday. We're planning on arriving in Crewe at around 5pm ish....does anyone know of anywhere near the Travelodge that does good food at a reasonable price? Also, are there any cinemas or bowling alleys etc nearby? I couldn't find much and the Crewe/Natwich tourist board site.

TIA!

There's a new cinema complex at the Phoenix Leisure park in Crewe.

Thanks! I just googled Phoenic Leisure Park and it looks like there's a bowling alley there too. I was worried we'd be stuck in a hotel with two bored teenage girls all night, lol. Looks like there will be plenty to do.

    Hi

Yes, there is a cinema, bowling alley and Pizza Hut on the complex. Assume you're stopping at the Travelodge on Crewe Green Link Road? If so, there's a pub on site called the Duke of Gloucester (I think). Only eaten there once, about 6 months ago, and the food was okay then.

Oh I thought that pub was really a student pub because of the closeness of the uni?

I live between Crewe and Nantwich and I have three teenagers so I know its difficult to keep them entertained.

The Phoenix park is about it really in Crewe. There is also a Mc Donalds in the town centre and a drive through as well near the big roundabout near the sorting office.

Other places to eat. Morrisons is good for breakfasts, on the same road as the Phoenix. There is also a new pub in Nantwich which is non smoking , nice modern place, nice staff and good menu.

Tesco in Crewe is a 24 hour store so this is useful for stocking up on the bits you have forgotten.

Are you going straight home after Alton Towers?

Yes, we are staying on Crewe Green Road and heading straight home after AT.

I had a look at the map for the bowling place and noticed there was a Tesco and Morrisons nearby so had planned to go to either of those for breakfast.

Do you know that name of the non smoking pub in Nantwich? How far is Nantwich from the Travelodge?

Yes Morrisons is far better for breakfast, nice cafe plenty of choice. Tesco is self service but you do get to read the newspapers and you get Tesco clubcard points! But I think Morrisons is better

The new non smoking pub is called Cronkinson Farm and it is on the Stapley estate You need to head for Stapley garden centre. If you drive from the travel lodge right through Crewe down the Nantwich road, over the big roundabout pass the railway station all the way into Nantwich, only about 3 miles and then follow signs to Stapley.

They also have a young adults menu if your teenagers cant manage full meals or a limited choice menu, choice of 4 dinners and 3 puddings for £5 if you eat before 6. It does not get overcrowded but I tend to ring and book a table.

The postcode of the travel lodge is CW1 5NW but I would not advice using the AA route finder on the travelodge website. It starts fine going along the Nantwich Road towards Nantwich and ends fine but at Wells Green traffic lights half way along the main road it suddenly takes you across country along small country roads. to join up with another road into Nantwich.

Also Thursday night is their pub quiz night. I think it starts about 8 if you get fed up with bowling and cinema! I think its free. This is a new estate so its all families that go there because its the first no smoking pub that has been opened recently around here

Morrisons opens at 8.30am on Friday morning.

Another alternative for breakfast is the Little Chef, just outside Crewe, which is actually en-route to Alton Towers. It's just off the roundabout at the M6/A500 junction (J16 M6). You'll be on the A500, just take the 1st exit at the roundabout and it's on the left.

Hope you all have fun at Alton Towers!

    Hi
We are also staying at this travelodge next week for Alton but want to make an early start. Where is the best supermarket en-route to stop for breakfast at approx 8am?

I'm not aware of any supermarkets en-route to Alton Towers. Tesco and Asda in Crewe would probably be open at 8am. There's the Little Chef I mentioned earlier, and there's Keele Services on the M6 between J16 & J15.
