Advice on next move for house purchase

Well, you are making them think at least. That's something. It is a good sign that the EA asked if the offer was still on the table - sounds like the vendors might be starting to use your offer as a basis for what they can afford for their next purchase.
If the vendors do like this other house then they are probably at the stage of negotiating for that one right now. There's no way to know how that is going and it could take a few days.
I would ring the EA tomorrow - you've played it cool for over 2 weeks since your last offer so it hardly makes you seem too keen.0 -

That’s the thing though all other things being equal not all 4-bed semis are cheaper than 4 bed detached.0 -

I decided to leave it, as if they wanted to go ahead with the other house I assumed they'd come back to me, and seeing as they have been unhelpful so far (eg refusing to counter offer) I doubt chasing them up will help.
I checked Rightmove today and they have now gone multi-agency. Seems like they are pretty desperate to sell at their (over-inflated) asking price.0
