Hi ive bought a second hand acer laptop (sold as seen aaarrrrh)
and when i got it home the fan was on all the time running flat out, and it wasnt even hot,
i opened up the back and cleaned the fan and heat sink,
and now and again it switch its self off and wont turn on for a few hours, i just remove the battery and she fires up again,,
but the fan kicks in and out all the time on full speed,
ive been told the processor could be faulity and might of over heated a local laptop repair shot says they will try an other prossesor for £30 and see if it works,
ive also been told the empower tech can course the fan to work over time, ive looked over the net now for 16 hours looking for answers but getting now where fast.
its got a intel pentim dual-core processor 2.16 ghz ,667 mhz fsb , 1mb l2 cache.
i would be very grateful if someone could take time out to help me out.
many thanks

turn of high performance mode in power settings, and check for a bios update.
instead of taking the battery out, hold down the on off button.
reset to factory settings to rule out software/malware
try running without the battery installed.!!

If it left the factory with W7, then it will have a factory restore partition
bios updates if available will be on the acer website.!!

I bought cheap a P4 laptop (pretending to be a cooker) a few years back.
It would shut itself down as you describe.
I stripped the machine down, applied decent silver paste to the cpu and graphics heat pipe cooler, and used the machine with a laptop cooler.
It worked for me. Might be worth a try?0 -

Quite sure that that machine was never supplied with Windows 7, only Vista SP1.
So you may need to look in more detail as to how it is activated.0
