Remote 'power on' of PC

I have my PC on cable broadband, with a firewall/router making the link to the cable MODEM.

In theory, I know the PC can be brought out of 'stand by' state be sending a 'wake up' packet to the Ethernet card (SiS 900).

Anyone know how to to this remotely, using a laptop?

I use the Depicus WOLcmd (mentioned in Albertross's linked webpage) command-line program from a server on the LAN -- but it can be difficult/impossible to do this through a firewall. Lots of stuff about it in the documentation, though.

Yeah, you won't be able to do it externally, ie via the internet. If you're trying to do it remotely, the router may have such a feature. I know you can setup some of the Linksys routers (using custom firmware) to send magic packets. I personally have a Draytek, which I log onto via the web, and can get it to send the magic packet for me (ie locally).

Also, if the PC you're trying to wake is on a wireless connection, it won't be possible.
