I'm liking Donald Swanson/Jack the Ripper idea. The murders were in and around Whitechapel, which is near to the Bank of England (print notes?). Although not sure about the 'Fake stone'.0

wow well done everybody so far! :T I definitely think we're on the right track
how about this for the fake stone?
http://wiki.casebook.org/index.php/Donald_Swanson
that site links to this newspaper article (click the 37) as the source [STRIKE]but there's no mention of a merchant in it other than the jeweller of New Bond Street, but it's a town we're looking for. Can't find any more mention of the case other than that site.[/STRIKE]In 1891 he was involved in the investigation of a bizarre fraud attempt by a man named Edward Pinter, who tried to obtain £40,000 in gold from a jeweller by pretending that he had discovered the philosopher's stone and could make one sovereign into three. Swanson concealed himself in the jeweller's workshop in Clerkenwell while Pinter demonstrated the technique. [37]
eta - omg going blind, Pinter is a merchant of Dover Street in the second line
Dover Castle is known as The Key To England and has a site called the friends of Dover Castle

I'm really slow today think we should be looking at this plan but not seeing what I'm looking for between 13 and 7
oh or maybe it's something to do with the wartime tunnels where Admiral Ramsay planned 'the miracle of Dunkirk'? http://www.dover-castle-friends.org/tour/wartime_tunnels/0 -
Well done guys - having got stuck on line 1 I moved to 2 - and jack the Ripper was all I could think of - So I am sure that Thurso - Swanson - Dover is the right connection. Not as green as I am cabbage looking0

Well done everyone!
If you look on the plan, on the map part, the number 12 lies between 13 and 7. 12 represents Bell battery.
Attach a colour to a word, Maybe bluebell?
Is the PY and O referring to pick your own?
Thinking out loud really and last time my thinking was well off, so this is probably all nonsense lol!2013 Alphabet challenge: A[STRIKE]B[/STRIKE][STRIKE]C[/STRIKE]DEFGHIJKLMNO[STRIKE]P[/STRIKE]QR[STRIKE]S[/STRIKE]TUVWXYZ

Between 13 and 7 are 4 and 12
4 - Inner Bailey Cafe and Shop
12 - Bell Battery - More likely and the closest to the line drawn between the 2 points. Not as green as I am cabbage looking0 -
I'm not sure about this PY and O - the "Y" in the actual clue does not look like a normal Y - could this mean something different?0

The "A" on the map is blue in colour - could it be Blue Bell or Blue Battery? Not as green as I am cabbage looking0 -

Looking at the Y in Key, I would agree with you - but what could it mean? Not as green as I am cabbage looking0 -
PYO commonly stands for pick your own. I've found a link to Bluebell farm, which is a PYO farm and it is in a place called Askham Bryan....could that tie in with the 'you may well ask' in the clue?
