Another question --- does FD make you put your card into a card reader in order to log onto internet banking? The NW has started this and it gets right on my tit!0

For those who opened the 8% regular saver in the first few days of November 2010, maturity date is coming up. Money gets transferred automatically into another FD savings account (i.e the Everyday e-Saver, Savings Account or they will set up a new savings account if you have neither)
I'm then planning to open a new 8% regular saver immediately (assuming it isn't pulled in the next week). First Direct have told me that this is allowed (i.e. the FD one regular saver rule just means one regular saver at any one time, so once the old one has matured you are free to open another).
Just mentioning it as a reminder for others who want to do the same.I came, I saw, I melted0 -
I was also going to do the same. Another advantage of it moving to a savings account is that it automatically creates one of the accounts that gets you round the monthly funding requirements even if you keep it at a zero balance and dont open another regular saver.0

I take it with the terms of the regular saver there is no advantage in applying at the end of the month to try and maximize interest etc?0

At present. You will find mentioned in several other threads that First Direct DOES plan to introduce additional security in the near future. This may or may not be something like the device that HSBC (First Direct's parent company) requires its customers to use. Hopefully not as this seems less popular than a card reader.0 -

I think both use cards - and i agree it is a pain - wonder if it really does improve security??

Agree with blueberrypie - my account is about 3 months' old and I haven't transferred salary (and indeed only keep in the money for the regular saver now as I have £1 in the ordinary saver).0 -
I'm hoping that FD will continue to let people login normally, but perhaps send/text a code to a registered mobile (or automated voice call to a landline for those who prefer) to setup new payments or transfer large amounts (> 1K) of money. We don't need sophisticated security measures just to view your current balance or see your recent transactions.
Google sends me a text message when I login to my mail from an unknown PC (and seemingly, monthly otherwise) and Halifax uses automated voice messages to your land line or mobile. I'd say these measures are MORE secure than a card reader and don't require you to take bulky equipment around with you.0
