if god forbid I am at a crash scene again I will call the police to the incident as now I am aware that I need to prove and drive the case forward myself and having more information will help this.
Police won't come to you unless an offence has been committed/alleged.
Google what to do when involved in a rta to be forearmed!0 -
I know, I'm only joking.
I have been Comprehensive for the first 7 years of owning the car. I always check the Comprehensive price, but this year and last the prices got very silly indeed.
I would still get 3rd party again, I am just now forewarned that if god forbid I am at a crash scene again I will call the police to the incident as now I am aware that I need to prove and drive the case forward myself and having more information will help this.
Police won’t be interested unless you can maybe smell alcohol on the other drivers breath
Re FC v TPFT v TP insurance…..I do my dear old dads for him, he drives a valueless fiesta and the last couple of years I’ve found the cheapest is fully comp but with a huge voluntary excess which effectively makes it TP. Also has the added bonus of glass cover at no extra cost.
Re legal cover, my view is it’s not worth it, it’s a very profitable add-on for the insurance companies to sell you. If an accident is your fault they won’t help and if it’s someone else’s fault the ambulance chasers will be queuing up to give you cash back to let them handle your case (and times two if there is an injury involved)0 -

Just to be clear (not hostile).
Legal cover will pay for solicitors to claim your losses from a 3rd party (usually their insurance) where a 3rd party is at fault (either wholly or partially).
It will not work where it's wholly your fault (or for the % that is your fault) or where there is no 3rd party (untraceable or unisured).0 -

All true but replace “legal cover” with “no win no fee firm” and it’s still just as true and you haven’t spent £30 up front.
Throw in the £300 or £500 cash back that lots of NWNF firms will give you and it’s a no brainer.
In fact even if you had legal cover you’d be better off not using it as you’d lose out on the cash-back.

Do "no win no fee" firms take on cases just to claim back an excess?
I don't think they do.
I agree with what you are saying to a point but they will not take on all cases.
I pay £12 for my family legal cover, not £30 and this covers all cars, bikes (3 altogether) plus household which include employment, consumer disputes, inland revenue investigations and defense help for driving convictions.
Personally I prefer to have legal cover, but not the £30 version to cover only one car.

If you are interested in transacting any mortgage or insurance business then send me a pm and I'll put you in touch.
(I'm not trying to sell you anything just answering your question).
I'm sorry but I don't know where you can buy it standalone.0 -
Just an update on the original post - the driver who bumped into me rang last night for a few extra details as he was filling in his claim form.
He apologised again and even enquired after my aunty who was in the car with me.
Hopefully this will mean it will be soon resolved.0 -
Dan,
NIG and Churchill are pretty much the same company. The are both owned by the Royal Bank of Scotland.
I would be inclined to call Churchill and remind them of this fact. There is a 98% chance that however you previously spoke to had no idea.
Tell them that if they wont help, you will get an accident management company to help you and that you are going to hire a vehicle on a credit hire basis. Say it like you mean it. That will do the trick0
