ive just ordered 4 wild ones from my butcher, they are £2.50 each and come fresh not frozen. This was the second butcher i phoned, the first wanted £4.50 each and they had been frozen previously!
ooh forgot to say i love it in a flemish beer stew, i think delia has a recipie.fill your boots I say.
Liney I wouldn't replace a lot of wine with sherry -but if it is just a slosh or two it should be OK. Cider is really good with rabbit and cheaper than wine.0 -

Take a look at my earlier post #20 and the link to pics of a rabbit pie -same principle but without the pastry0 -
Great rabbit recipes folks. The stifado looks fantastic and I fancy making all of the ones which mention cream and/or alcohol!
I have just started cooking and eating rabbit and love it. I can get wild ones, unfrozen, from my local butcher for £2.80 which is bags cheaper than chickens and I am pretty sure the rabbit will have had a better life. And I usually make a casserole one day and pie with left-overs. LOTS of new recipe ideas now though....I need to get to the butchers on monday to get some in.
Cheers AllTess x

I have been getting my rabbit from the farmers market at 2.50 each or 2 for 4.00, great value and pheasants for 5 for £10 i find these are great meals and much prefer eating them to the now 1.99 chickens in tesco! I also get my fish there too which is much cheaper and fresher that the supermarkets.0

The season's coming to an end for wild ones, so stock up soon if you want a good supply during the Summer. Although you can still get them occasionally during Summer, they're nowhere near as available as they are during Winter;)0 -

Where is your Farmer's Market as that seems amazing especially for the pheasants!!! I have found Farm Shops in Yorkshire to be expensive but have not been to a market locally or heard of any good ones.Laughing at my ancient signature...voodoobaby now 10 years old:eek:0 -

I'm in hampshire and the farmers market moves around locally each week, http://www.hampshirefarmersmarkets.co.uk/
not sure about other areas though but i love ours and go once a month to stock up.0 -
Rabbit! Don't know how long it is since I've eaten one, my father used to shoot them when I was a child, my mother would cook them but not eat them. Rabbit is a very expensive commodity here, saw a very small one last week for €7.50...would buy it to treat myself once in a while but money too tight to do it regularly.
Enjoy your rabbit, they are delicious!
