Income Support confusion!

Comments

  • When you live with a partner, both you and your partners income is counted for means tested benefits. e.g. IS, IBJSA, HB & CTB.

When you moved in with your partner, it was your resposibility to inform income support that you were now living together with a partner. This is a change in circumstances that must be declared. From that point on, all means tested benefits would have been based on both you and your partners income. It is your partners income which would stop your claim for income support from the date you started living together.

You may qualify for some HB/LHA based on your joint income so it's worth applying.

The IS claim was granted whilst I was still in University, therefore those who made the decision were happy that I fitted into the criteria.

Did they know about your student finance when you were awarded IS at university?
