Gaming Laptop/Notebook - help?

Hi,

Wondered if anyone could recommend the best (value!!) gaming laptop. I've always preferred Dell as a PC - but don't know anything about gaming stuff. My other half has found on a search Alienware Aurora? - but I know nothing about their name at all - and I've tried to compare their spec's but don't know what is really needed and what you can do without.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

  • What is needed is a fast processor, a lot of RAM and a decent graphics card. I think Alienware are well thought of for gaming.

Alienware were bought by Dell to focus on the 'LAN party' market.

Rock Xtreme CTX Pro or a Dell XPS M1710 will satisfy, both being Core Duo 2 based with Nvidia GeForce Go7900GTX you'll not have to upgrade for a while...

amcluesent's suggestions are good. I liked Alienware as well, I'm not sure whether Dell still use the Alienware name though.

Basically the main difference between the average laptop and a gaming one, is that it has a higer end graphics card. Unfortunately these come at a premium. For a decent spec machine, there isn't too much value out there, but you should be able to pick up something for £800 or so.
