I think the ideas of advent calendars and stocking are lovely - something to keep and remember. Last year was my neice's first christmas and she was nine months. I made her a little advent sack with a present for each day of december. I just put it little bits like dummies, bibs, socks, cup, spoons, travel-size baby toiletries from Superdrug, baby wipes that came as a freebie, etc. Quite a few of the things were from multipacks that I split down. I know it probably didnt mean that much to my neice but I know my sister loved having a little present to open each day and having some practical stuff in there too!

My little boy will be 8 months old this Christmas and most relatives are either giving money/vouchers for us to use later on, or buying clothes, he may get one or two toys/gifts. I've said it is really silly as he has a lot of toys passed down from his older siblings and lets be honest they spend more time wanting to play with the wrapping paper/boxes.

As mentioned anything to put photo's in are great, if you are crafty, to make something yourself, the stocking idea is good too. I've made in the past some bucilla felt stockings, they are kits and fairly pricey, but great fun and once made will last for years. I finished my daughters last year, so now need to make one for the baby, not this year though.

Last year I had two first Christmases to buy for, so they each got a small toy, coloured wooden ones and I made them some little First Christmas memory albums. I made the whole thing from scratch, decorated the front and put a picture of them on, personalised it and then each page inside just had a little bit of text on each page so they could add a photograph... eg.. Waiting for Santa.. so a pic on Christmas Eve could go on that page, then Santa's been.. pic on Christmas day etc etc.
They loved them. I'm hoping to do one for my little boy this year.
But frames are a good idea too, if you can personalise them, even better.
Something that can be kept when all the toys have long gone.

What about a dish with the suction pads on the bottom and a spoon? Unless they're already feeding themselves.
  • My niece will be 5 months by Christmas and I have got her an ELC big bee from Boots 3 for 2 and will get her a couple of outfits from Tesco with the money off vouchers I got for registering. I got her older sister who will be 2 in December a TMX Elmo for Christmas and play doh (£5 from woolworths!) and a keyboard/drum also from boot 3 for 2. (Her b/day is 12th Dec!)
