ipad alternative present for my mum

so a while back I bought my mum a laprtop to get her connected to the digital world (she's in her 60's and technology adverse). A few months later I check on her progress only to find she rarely uses it as she says oh by the time I start the thing up etc its hardly worth it for the 3 minutes I want to spend just looking at a website or youtube video.

Anyway this got me thinking that a much better alternative would have been to buy her a large smartphone type device or something similar to a ipad. At least with these you can just turn them on and it doesn't appear that you have to worry about virus's etc. She's only interested in occasional web browsing and looking at youtube videos. So with Xmas approaching I'm dead set on getting her sorted with something suitable.

Can anyone recommend a cheap touch screen web browsing device for under £100. What about this? http://www.ijtsave.co.uk/?sct=7touch

That one's awful - ridiculously underpowered and a dodgy manufacturer. Yes it is cheap, but you won't be able to do much with it - it really struggles to play local video, let alone youtube.

    I'd go for this:
    Disgo tablet 6000

Yes, at £179 it's more than you were hoping to spend, but it's still cheap for what it does, and has recieved good reviews. It has double the RAM and more than double the processor speed, and also comes with the latest and more user-friendly version of the Android operating system.

  • Thanks Poppy.

http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/tablet-pcs/1280299/disgo-launches-tablet-6000 seems to imply that the Android is the older version: 2.1 though.

Was quite keen on keeping the budget down to £100, so have also been looking at the apad on ebay

Version 2.2 is in the stages of rollout some manufacturers are upgrading next month .
Probably be available as free upgrade to existing machines .
