    partition the hard drive?

you could always format the xp hdd and install 95 on the hdd but you will lose all your data

why do you want windows 95 anyway?

Try using a floppy to boot from. You can download Windows 95 boot disks here: http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

If you have a copy of Windows 98, you can use 98lite, which is a great tool that strips un-necessary components from Win98 and really speeds things up on old hardware. Have a look at http://www.litepc.com/ if you're interested.

    Hi thomas01155

I used to use Windows 95 and did several clean installs.

This is how I remember it:-

The Windows 95 CD isn't bootable so you need a "CD boot disk" on a floppy disk.
You can get one from websites such as this one:-

    http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

On the floppy boot disk you have (amongst other things) a driver for your CD rom and some DOS commands.

So you insert the floppy boot disk and switch on your pc so that it boots from the floppy.
You will just see the DOS prompt
    A:

First you must get rid of all the Windows XP stuff by reformatting the hard drive, the DOS command is
FORMAT C: (where C is your hard drive)

Next you must insert the Windows 95 CD.
Then you must change the drive using DOS command
cd D (where D is your CD rom drive)
Then you must change to the Windows 95 folder using DOS command
    cd WIN95
    Then enter the command
    SETUP

That's how I remember it. Just make sure to save any data first. Also I recommend you do a google search for "Install Windows 95" to get a second opinion.
    Good luck

See Bat999's post ... I'm pretty sure it can't be done without a floppy drive, Windows wasn't bootable from the CD until Win98
