First off, DHSS ceased to exist long ago, so if you managed to advise them off anything that is pretty impressive.

Are you getting SSP from work? If so then you cannot claim ESA and can claim Income Support. I dont think you will be entitled to claim Income Support as a lone parent because of your employment status - unless you normall work less than 16 hours.

If your SSP is finished then you could claim ESA.

Yes, if entitled to ESA(C) then the higher of the two will be paid, this is usually the ESA(C) but can sometimes be CA.

The Carers Premium will be paid with the ESA(IR) if conditions are met..

As you are entitled to CA then you might be able to claim IS on that basis.

How much is your half pay though? That will affect things.

And getting a loan, depends what kind of loan you are talking about, I dont see why they would pay a loan if you have an alternative source of income ie. your half pay.
