Self employed and claiming housing benefit problems.

Hi,
I've been self employed for approx 6 months.
I've been entitled to small amount of housing benefit because my income is so low and my daughter works full time.
The council reassessed my situation 3 months ago and because my income was so low they suggested in writing that I claim income support - I told them I wasn't entitled to it because I was working 30 hrs a week and receiving working tax credits.
6 months on they want my latest figures and have also suggested in the letter that I claim job seekers allowance based on my previous figures.
I'm really upset that they seem to be pushing me into unemployent when I'm doing my best to get on my feet and support myself.
I know things are slow at the moment but I'm not sitting idly twiddling my thumbs - I'm trying.
Do they have the right to make me feel so useless.
Can they stop my housing benefit if I continue to earn such a low wage? I'm extremely worried.
They currently pay £40 a week towards my £95 per week rent.
If I was unemployed they would pay it all, doesn't make sense.

    Sorry what is your query?

The council have a role to play in ensuring you claim all you are entitled to. If they consider your business is not making sufficient income, they may want to know why you are continuing with it and this may raise concerns.
I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.
