I am flying to Dubai in next few days, and in light of what we are hearing regarding recent events in the media I am not sure whether to travel or not.

I would be intrested to know what others people's view on this.

The incident in the headlines this weekend was on a cargo plane. Unless you're flying on one of these there's no more risk than there was last week. If anything, security will be more vigilant now meaning your less at risk than before.

It appears the bombs had already been carried by passenger planes from Yemen to Doha and then to Dubai by Qatar Airlines before being handed over to DHL. What at first appeared to be a less dangerous situation, except for those flying the planes, now appears to becoming a much more serious issue of security. I would still fly, did so last weekend to Vienna and will be flying again next weekend but I suspect in the next few days, whether justified or not, there may be further security issues at airports. If you chose to cancel you will lose most if not all your money I would have no hesitation in flying but if you are so nervous you will not enjoy yourself, then only you make the decision to cancel
  • Personally i would be fine with flying. One of the things that was mentioned on the news was that it was mobile detonators which dont work while your in the sky flying so the only risk would most likely be the time spent in the departure lounge and getting through arrivals which is usually around 1 hour max.

agree with above the recent events have highlighted a security issue that will have been addressed.
it will not stop me flying if it did stop people flying then the scum that plant/send these devices have won
  • Hum in all my years of flying to dubai I have never been afraid in part because I've held the opinion that they are unlikely to blow up there neighbours
  • If your flight involves either of the following I would be marginally concerned:

    a) Your flight to Dubai is the 1st part of a flight you have booked to Sana'a Yemen.
    b) You are flying by Cargo Plane. Via Yemen. Or Kabul.

Any other option is not worth 1 millisecond of worry.

    I wouldnt hesitate at all

It wouldnt surprise me, if the packages were sent by a CIA agent, just to get the fear levels up again and have an excuse for the Americans to increase security. Or have their own budgets increased.

Hum - Try telling that to the families of the many Muslims killed in the 9/11 and 7/7 attacks and the thousands of terrorists 'neighbours' still being slaughtered by 'their own' in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq to name a few.

    A very illogical assumption.

Irrespective of location, religion or race, if you are just in the wrong place at the wrong time, you will be just another statistic in the very dangerous world we currently live in.
