JSA and Housing Benefit claim

I have bee told i will be made redundant after Christmas and so will likely be making a claim for JSA and Housing/Council Tax benefit.
When i phone to make the JSA claimwill i be able to make the HB claim at the same time?
If so how does this work? WIll I have to take my rent book/tenancy into the Jobcentre when i have my first interview or will i have to visit the Council separately?
I havent signed on for over 10 years so not sure what to do.
Also what will i get in JSA? There is just myself and a young person in FT education living here at the moment.
I just need a rough idea so i can budget if i cant find work

Thanks for any info

You have to go to the council seperately. Make sure you take all your paperwork and 2 forms of ID.

JSA rates are on this link

How old is the young person and are they your dependent?
Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind.

You don't have to go separately as when you have your jsa interview, they should ask you if you want to claim housing and council tax benefit. They should then tell you what you'll need to provide and you take that to the jobcentre.

They then send a form called a LAID (local authority input document) to the council.

In all honesty , this process doesn't always work and in my council, we could process a claim much faster if the customer came To us directly so might be a good idea to try both!

You can make a claim up to 13 weeks early and if you could afford the rent when you moved in, you would be entitled to your full rent for 13 weeks after which time it will reduce to the local housing allowance rate.
I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.
