Swapping laptops - Outlook question

I will be swapping laptops with a friend in a couple of weeks time - I have had theirs for a while after getting a repair done and not getting the chance to return it.

I use Outlook 2007 to access my mail and want to make sure anything I have downloaded is removed from one machine and available on the other after swapping. Is there anything I need to do? I thought it was copying .pst files but can't find any!

Any advice appreciated.

You are right about the pst file. It is usually found in your user area. (local settings/application data/microsoft/outlook if using Windows xp). If you can't find it you can search for it in Windows Explorer.

OK, thanks - I've found two pst files (I don't know why I didn't see them first time round. Should I copy these from one laptop to the other or if I just delete them will the information (messages, folders, calendar info etc) download next time I log in to my email (Virgin Mail)?

If you copy them on to a memory stick and then delete them from your old laptop then whoever uses it won't see the information. I'm surprised you have 2 pst files unless one is old and not used. Look at the dates and if one is updated recently then that is the one you want to put with your new laptop but I would keep both until you are sure you have everything you need.

    Thanks again.

Both have the same date and time stamp from today. One is called Outlook.pst and is about 60 Meg. The other is OutlKen Virgin Mail-00000004.pst and is nearly 180 Meg. As you suggest, I'll keep a copy them both until I'm sure I've got everything.

Check the size of the PST files. I have found that Outlook creates one when you first start it and then when you enter user details etc.. it creates another one. And check the date as above. I would expect one to be small and old...

Edit: I didn't see your reply until I replied! You probably have two accounts set up in Outlook then? One for Virgin email and the other for some other account? Take them both across ..
