Rent & Council Tax benefit for family with 1 full time student

HI
I moved in with my partner in August and we started claiming rent & council tax benefit from Scarborough Borough council.
My partner works 20-25 hours and we claim tax credits etc.
I started university on a full time course in September and they asked for copies of my student loan and grants.
They have taken these payments as an income for myself and therefore our benefit has significantly dropped. I sent a financial plan for what the grant & loan would be spent on but they dont seem to have considered this.
I was under the impression that my loans & grants did not class as income so I wasnt expecting any change in the payment.
Can anyone help me on this one or has anyone had a similar experience?
Thanks

The student loan is classed as income. What you spend it on is irrelevant for the purposes of claiming Benefit.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
As above^^, student loans and grants are used to assess means tested benefits.0

Both replies are correct but you should ensure you are now getting a single person discount on your council tax bill as you are now exempt so should get the discount.
There are a lot of posts on here for those who are students as certain elements are disregarded but also, the regulations state the council will use a student loan even if you choose not to take 1I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.
