Point of principle really?

I bought a very cheap keyboard for my grandsons first pc from play in January this year, it was only £3.99 but we was on a budget and all seemed well till the other day.

It now seems that it just doesnt work at all, Ive tried it on my pc, totally dead.

I could just buy another one which I will, but I thought hang on its less than a year old, I will email play.com and see what they say.

Apparently they only do returns for 28 days was their reply, surely this is incorrect if an item is faulty and less than a year old?

Please someone tell me if Im correct about being a bit miffed about this, Ive bought some very high value items from them in the past, some over £200 and would be very upset if this applied to everyone.

I assume there was no manufacturers guarantee with the keyboard so at this point in time you would have to proof that the keyboard was inherently faulty.

    £3.99 buy a new one!

Over 6 months now so it'd be down to you to get an independent third party engineer report to prove the fault to be inherent to the item. Pretty crappy customer service but it doesn't surprise me.

Doesn't play offer a one year guarantee on hardware, their site is very vague about warranties.

I understand the point you are making but, if I were in your shoes, my expectations with respect to a £3.99 keyboard would be very low. If they still sell the item at that price, I'd be inclined to shrug it off and buy another one (which, judging by your post, is what you intend to do).

Surely if the keyboard comes with a guarantee it would be whatever company the keyboard is that would deal with any sort of claim.

If it is play.com branded then it will depend on again whether it comes with a guarantee anyway.

Looking at it £4.99 is now their cheapest keyboard.
