Looking for DVD RW + or - I don't know which is best, but I'm sure my DVD recorder can handle both.

Why can't I find RW on a 100 spindle? Only finding R on a 100.

I found RW at an individual disc price of 43p inc VAT (dunno about shipping), What's the price I should be aiming for (per disc)?

Thanks

Well, I haven't played much with DVD's for a while, ever since switching to USB hard drives. When it comes down to DVD's its all down to the quality. Now, 43p seems really reasonable, seen as my local store sells them for £1 a pop, but as said before, its all down to the brand. They could be really cheap discs that will last you a few re-writes the most before giving you errors.

I found a bunch of Tesco DVD-RW's 100 pack for £33 which comes to 33p a disc. So if you've found a good brand for 43p a disc, I would like to believe that's definitely hit the mark. But without knowing which brand you found, we wouldn't be able to let you know if its good or not.

From experiance, DO NOT go for cheap or nameless brands if you wish to use it for longetivity. I remember I purchased 100 DVD-R's - nameless, and within a few uses, they started to wear out and become unreadable. Although, I am currently useing a few DVD-RW's that are Maxell which are still working after about 6 re-writes so far, so good.

I second that, I absolutely love maxell

Don't buy cheap stuff like Asda rewritables, I find them rubbish and they skip tracks badly

TBH you can't tell much by the label as the disks are made in a small number of factories around the world.

Use DVDIdentifier to tell you who made the disk

Look here for a ranking of makers

SVP Online have a range of discs including the latest most fashionable /highly rated discs .

I tend to pick up half price super market offers on discs as and when but only buying Verbatim and only then if made in japan as usually TY dye .

DVD-RW must be the most unreliable form of media there is. You get all sorts of incompatibility probs. Surely USB storage has superceded them?
I buy a cheap brand dvd-r disc but they check out TYG02 and they do work well - 99+% but I only burn at 8x max -nero says can burn at 12x

Found these -I haven't looked for a while because they were cheap enough.

Maxell is not a manufacturer, it's just a brand. It could be anything in the package, even from the same manufacturer like the ASDA ones. Even if the current Maxell DVD's are good, you can't be sure what they're using next week...

As others said in this thread, if you want quality, go for Taiyo Yuden. I used to buy mine from SVP too.
