You can run one on an extension OK. I did have one with three ethernet sockets that came on a short power lead but can't see that type listed anywhere now (Amazon + eBay seem to have 3 port ones but they look like they may be plug in ones). I found it didn't pay to have them plugged into to same extension as computer kit though.0

I have used a couple of mine in trailing extensions ....no problem at all (other than about a 10% drop in speed).
For this purpose he can certainly live with that sort of speed drop. I could just remount the double socket, but this is supposed to be a 5 min job I'm doing for him...No free lunch, and no free laptop
