Just spotted this thread again! Just word of caution.....
Visited yesterday in the hope of using my £5 off £15 voucher (given on last visit)- and hoping if I bought 2 hardback books-would gain the £10 giftcard. However, wished I had used it as soon as I got it last week-I wanted the Fearne & Holly book for dd. Spotted it - but it had gone up from £6.99 to £14.99:eek: Made no sense to buy-even if I get the giftcard.
Came back home-went on WHSmiths website and the same hardback book is £6.79 !!! I always assumed the books were the same price in store as on line:o
    Just check before you buy.;)

Yes, this is the case on some items, you need to do the maths.

For example, I bought the derren brown book and the autobiography of jo brand, normally priced at 10 pound each before this sale, now have gone upto 16 and 14, total being 30 pound. Then used the 5 pound off, bringing them down to 25, and gained 10 pound voucher. I also needed a memory stick priced at 18 and also bought mcentires biography normally 10 pound and still priced at 10 pound, and then used another 5 pound off voucher along with 10 pound gift card. Total spend 38 pound, for 3 books and memory card, essentially getting 3 books for 20 quid, which normally would be 30 quid.

On the reverse of this, it can also work against and or no gain.

For example, another 2 books, danny dyers autobiography and harry hills book, normally 10 quid each, but have gone upto 18 and 17 quid, total of now 35 quid. Using the 5 pound voucher and gaining a 10 pound giftcard, brings them back down to essentially paying 10 quid each for them, no gain at all... There are circumstances where you can be actually worse off, you need to do the maths.

As for next week, using the 20 percent discount card, using the 5 pound voucher, and gaining 10 pound gift card (if still in the blue sticker offer, and prices do not go up again), would work out to be more attractive but not that much, in my last example.
  • Had yet another useless trip as my WH Smith didn't have any of the books in the offer for less than about £16 so not worth spending £28 (using £5 voucher) for a £10 card.
    It's 5 o'clock somewhere!

Just wondering if anyone saw this book in whsmith. i really need this book in time for christmas but not too sure if its in store. also would be ideal if i could use the £5.00 voucher but on the website it says 4 weeks plus delivery, so i am guessing this would mean the book is not in-store.

    Thanks
  • At the weekend in Birmingham I got Fearne and Holly 12.99 reduced from 14.99 and used my five pound voucher as book cost over 10 pound. Also got Jac Wilson - Longest whale Song 9.99 and got a 10 pound gift card (not all JW had the giftcard sticker on them had to hunt around the store) so 17.98 for 2 books and a 10 pound gift card.

Then found a lovelly mirrored jewelry box that my DD had asked for - 35 pound (who would pay 35 pound???) down to 14 plus a roll of wrapping paper used my spend 15 get 5 off and then used my gift card so spent another 1.50!!

So for the grand total of 19.48 got Fearne and Holly book , Jac Wilson book and Jewelry box (the last 2 being the things my DD is most desperate for ) and paper to wrap them in - result!!!
Been stupid but have no regrets starting to slowly sort my finances now the kids are growing
