Focus Saloon Diesel Thoughts...?

Hi,

I really want a focus diesel, i have about £1500 > £2000 to spend, i have now seen a 2002 Focus Saloon Diesel, it is in my price range, full service history, and clutch \ flywheel replace, recon turbo, etc,etc. milage is 100+ which dont bother me too much. i was reading on parkers that these are harder to sell in future, but i intend to keep it and do my moterway travelling so that is not a issue.

Reading up on them, they seem ok, anyone know of anything to look out for?

    Same checks as for any old car - at 8 years and 100k the suspension may be tired - worth checking what work has already been done. Cambelt is due at 100k, so check that too.

    Apart from having a boot, the car is not much different to a hatchback and Focus is well regarded as a good second hand buy - you don't see many saloons and most I see are driven by oldies so probably aren't abused. Just ensure it is priced below a similar spec and aged hatch - you may need to sell it and as you already know people aren't queuing to buy them, but keep it long enough and it will do someone as a bangernomics motor.

    Well I have a 2000 Focus Diesel 1.8 bought new - juts gone through 221,000 miles - so they do seem to keep going.

    Looking at the review on the Honest John website, the timing belt interval for Focus Diesels appears to be 35,000 miles.
    Have you considered the Mondeo TDCI with its chain-driven cam? That would certainly swing it for me!

    Pages of receipts for lots of work.

    Mondeo may be out of the question, as i wrote my previous car off, and no-claims went out the window, insurance on one of these for me is only £300 dabs, compared to £500 plus for a mondy.

    Above point is spot on and really needs to be emphasised.

    Your looking at less than a tenth of a percent being saloons. As you intend to keep it long term its not a problem but do ensure that you get more value for money when buying this car than you would with an equivalent hatch.

    I remember a dealer requiring a 4k deposit from a customer before he was prepared to order one as thats what he reckoned he would need to discount it buy in order to sell if the customer cancelled.

    Car is pretty much a factory order (if they still do them) I am sure they do but I think I have only ever seen 3 or 4 on the roads or in dealers.
