Money for travelling - any advice?

Hi everyone,
Just looking for a bit of advice on the best back-up funds to have for when I go travelling.
I have a full-time job but I'm struggling more than I thought I would to raise money after I graduated but I should be okay for the trip in May.
Just so I'm not worrying about money, I'm considering getting a graduate loan (at 9.9% APR for over £5,000 loan and I'm guessing it'll be higher for under £5,000 which is what I'm planning on doing). Then there's the option of credit cards? - I was thinking about getting the 0% for a year interest as we're leaving in May 2011. However, I'm not sure how likely I am to be able to get a credit card because as far as I'm aware, I haven't got a credit rating and I don't want to damage it by applying for everything.
I'm selling things on ebay, transferring overdrafts into savings account etc. in a bid to raise some extra cash so I'm just looking for advice on what people think would be the best option.. ? I don't mind being in a bit of debt because I'm sure travelling the world is worth it! I'm just trying to limit the damage.
Hope someone can help
Thanks.
