we recently got engaged and are looking for our first house
SCARY!
we have a large family and they all keep asking "when's your engagement party" "Should we get something for your new house" which is really nice as all our family are wanting to help us out BUT...
we've been going to all the places around our local town for somewhere to have a party, prices range from £7 per head to £11 per head. we have tried cutting numbers down e.t.c but the cheapest party was going to be around £800 for the amount of people who would be coming. this price includes disco and buffet. We were put off as the money could be spent towards our deposit but it would be a good idea too for a few reasons
1. we really want to celebrate. The engagement was well overdue. We have been together 7 years now
2. We want lots of nice pressies :rotfl: for our new home which we may not be able to afford straight away!
Today - I really have to hand it to my OH. she has found a localish pub to us which has recently been taken over by new owners. the pub hasnt been doing too well in terms of numbers through the doors and takings and the new owners are doing all sorts of crazy things to lure people back!!
They have agreed to let us have the entire pub for our party except the pool room they have (keeping this for the regulars to use on the night)
they will cater for 150 people. provide disco and pub hire for
go on guess...

. okay okay
£80!!!!!!!! JUST £80!!!
to be honest - they will make a fortune in revenue from drinks. and its local to most the family so they will probably get business from my family in the future at the those prices!
But im really chuffed. she's doing the food for free because she knows the money we will spend on alcohol will pay for it easily...
cant wait now!
:T :T Think this has to be one for the books, we never save a big chunk of money like that easily!! wooohoo!:D

A large number of pubs, bars and even clubs will offer venue space for free if you can guarantee attendance numbers. Quite often you'll be asked for a hire fee up front and you can have it back if enough people turn up. It's all based on good bar profits bringing revenue for the venue. Not so many places will throw in free food, but it must always be worth asking!
Some venues have "VIP" areas or function rooms for which they'll give you exclusive use for the start or all of the night. Not as exclusive but can be worth considering.
Good luck moneysaving for the wedding, too :-)0 -
