Check internet address

I hope this message is posted on the correct forum. It can be moved if required
Can any members please advise;
How to google and check if a company selling products on the internet is legal?
When was it registered on the site or as an outlet?
If it is a private seller what to look out for?
Often when reading various pages members quickly respond with the dates on which it was registered and other info to weed out the fraudsters. How is this done?
Am aware that u take a chance but a little extra awareness would help as some are based abroad but with .co.uk address?
Thanks

    I will never deal with a company over the web unless I know of them or first verify their existence by telephoning them and seeing if the person who answers actually appears to be the company. I won't deal with a company that only has a mobile number or doesn't show a UK landline number to contact them on. The link above will tell you about the domain. That can highlight new or dodgy looking registrations too. These are not foolproof precautions, but do put your mind at ease a bit.
