Trying to re-install Windows XP...

I'm getting this error when I try to install Windows XP onto a new HDD which I've installed into my computer:

STOP: C0000221 unknown hard error \SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

I've tried the usual google searches but none of the results seem relevant as I can't get Windows running in the first place.

Any ideas?

How are you installing XP, by booting from a CD?
    When does the error show?

That error usually indicates a corrupt file, so is something already installed when it occurs? I assume it's booting off the CD OK, if that's how you're installing it.

I'm installing off the Dell Windows XP CD which came with the computer originally.

The HDD is new - but it recognises it on the screen when I boot up.

I'd clone the old HDD to the new HDD, you won't get these problems ;)

How do I do that? Given that I can't actually get Windows even working at all hence the re-install..

Have you run a FULL FORMAT first?

I received the HDD just this morning and installed it into old PC and then ran the Windows installation straight off...

The original problem which led me to re-install is that I couldn't get old PC to boot-up in the first place.

How did you come to the conclusion a new hardrive was required?

Ill reask - have you run a FULL FORMAT before installing? (if not id advise that before trying anything else)
